DeFeo’s school and police records added to the composite of what he was. Even photographs helped. One of the items in the DeFeo file was an old snapshot of Butch, his siters and his brother, Marc, standing on the front stoop of their Amityville home, dressed for a special occasion, probably Easter. All wore flowers in their lapels. The girls had on spring suits and white hats and carried pocketbooks. Marc wore an Eton cap and a bow tie and a gray suit with shorts. The girls and Marc were animated; the little boy’s mouth was open in a big grin. Behind them – somber, staring – stood Ronald DeFeo Jr., a fat kid in a red blazer and matching tie. We would find out that Butch had lost a great deal of weight during a methedrine episode in his late teens. When the photograph was taken, he was only fifteen. He was massive.

I just stumbled on this post and I have wondered the same thing for years. Surely there are other pictures of the Defeos.

Marc looks like a paraplegic, with his arms and hands the way he has them; Allison and John look hyperactive. The really strange aspect of this photo is that both Dawn and Ronald look like the normal children.
This is really the best photo they could have released to the public? After all these years, this - and the blasted crime photos and oil portraits - is all we got to go on to remember this poor, unfortunate family?
In Gerald Sullivan's book, "High Hopes," he mentions a photo where the children are standing on the front door stoop, dressed for Easter, and Ronald is about 15, and you can figure how young the rest of the kids were. But he said everyone looked adorable - except Ronald, who was massive and sullen. That's a picture I'd like to see.

I'm just pointing out that Ronnie was right. They were plotting behind his back, this proves it.

Guess that proves they made him do it.
