Ho! :D I'm maybe going to Chicago for some X-mas vacation this December, I'll have a look at some of these places and the statue of Michael Jordan too of course :lol:

The Bartonville Insane Asylum looks a lot like the insane asylum from the UK show Bedlam. Wonder if asylums from that era had this distinctive look?

Maybe.

Is it because they both are England, New England 's Victorian style from the late 1800 ?

These buildings are made/built with what architects call the "Prairie style, Mission style, Classical Revival, Georgian Revival" architecture.
