"Amityville Vacation House" HO Scale Replica

Postby Amityville_11701 » Mon Jan 10, 2011 8:34 am

Has anyone else seen this new replica put out by Atlas?

They're calling it the "Amityville Vacation House."

I ordered one earlier today. Curious to see how detailed it actually is. It isn't 100% accurate, of course, but it's not too bad for a loosely-based version of the house. ;)

I think I've seen those on eBay. I wouldn't mind having one, but I'm not sure I'd be good at putting it together.

Yeah I would like mine to already be assembled and I could just work on the decorating part. I know if I tried to put it together myself the house would end up looking like a real horror!

LOL! No kidding. I've designated my better half as being the assembler of this kit. He's far better at these types of projects than I am. I'm only the end-user. ;)

Pretty cool, but $80 for a 4-inch-tall model? :?

If you think that's expensive, you'd be surprised at the cost of the model trains themselves these days.

Expensive for my tastes, but I realize I'm not the target market. I have no idea what prices are like for train layout accessories. I kinda thought a lot of people just made their own buildings and stuff...

You might be able to find them a little cheaper on eBay.

I don't know how well I'd do at making one, but if I had the time, I could give it a try.

I don't think my sister would be too happy with me if I got one though.XD She's terrified of the house and said, "Don't go buying any models of it, or anything that was ever in it!". :D

Of course, if I did find an item that was from the house, and I could afford it, I would buy it. ;)

^^ Even that price is high.
I know I'm getting older here and time and price increases marches on, but honestly twenty bucks would be fair... :D

This.
I figured when I read this I'd see how much, it might look nice on the shelf next to the toy Dalek and that replica Mario Galaxy star, but not for eighty bucks no way...

You know I kind of skipped over where Dan originally said it was only 4 inches high. I'm not really familiar with model RR sets, and looking at the picture I just imagined it a lot bigger than that. The full dimensions are: 9' X 3 1/2" FOOT-PRINT - 4 "HIGH :fp:

Good grief now I get why you guys are saying it's expensive. For a model that size, that you have to put together yourself, I'd agree that it should be no more than $20 max. I used to build those plastic model cars as a kid, and they were as big as this house for less than ten bucks.

I'm glad I'm not the one having to paint and assemble this tiny mess! :?

I'll post pictures of it when it's complete. Don't look forward to that any time too soon, though. ;)

(Oh, and those are just the "large" pieces pictured!)

That looks like fun. Just wait until you get it built. Atlas will probably re-release it already assembled for an even higher price.

Are there any pictures of the windows, chimney and roof?
I am thinking of buying one but I can't believe that that model is so small!

HO scale is 1/87 of the real thing.

It would be wonderful if you photo journal the assembly! I know that may be asking much.....but it would be a wonderful addition to the board!

That's a good idea, Shawn! I think I'll do that. I probably won't get started in on it for another month or so; I need to finish a couple of other projects first. Once I get going, though, I'll be sure to take pictures along the way. :)

Just from looking at it, I'm thinking it's going to be even more complicated than building the actual-scale 1951 Chevy Pickup I'm putting together right now! ;)
