Now gee, why would that be at all relevant?

I posted the link and went off to work, just got to read the article. Last I heard, they still lived in Wilkes-Barre, Sherman St. to be exact. I was going to drive past the house on the way home, but forgot. I'm sure there are going to be a bunch of slow vehicles going past this week.

While it's true the Warrens involvement can be viewed on both ends of the spectrum, there is something about the Smurl's story that I've always, for some reason I can't answer, believed. It fascinates me as much as Amityville.

Although, it is interesting to me that in the years that have gone by they've (in essence) stayed as far from the spotlight as possible. Throughout his life George was present on radio shows dealing with the paranormal, at conventions, and the like. The Smurls stayed away from all this, and to my knowledge, continue to avoid it. Not the behavior of people who would want to make up a ghost story for attention.

Stephen Kaplan, director of the Parapsychology Institute of America in New York City, said at the time that the case was a hoax, too.
Well, that settles that then!
Amen. Kaplan's ability to say point blank that something's a hoax when he's never investigated a case was truly remarkable. *rolls eyes*

I take his less seriously than even the Warrens.

And of course Kaplan's claims that the Smurl case is also a hoax has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the fact that the Warrens were involved.

Silly of me to think that

Does anyone know where the Smurl home was in Pittsboro? Is it still up and are families living in there today? Wow this story still facinates me. I thought I remember someone posting up a picture of this house about a 1 or so ago? I would love to see that picture again if someone has it to share.

I am going to try and remember to drive past tomorrow, or even this morning on break- to see if it looks vacant or not. I love the fact that nobody has decided to paint the front, cause there is no doubt its all original. Most owners would have had new siding put up and probably new windows installed.

We have several threads on the Smurl case, but here's an older one just for starters...

Also, I have some documents I've been meaning to post for some time now but haven't gotten around to it as of yet...so this will give me some initiative! :D
This case has always fascinated me, almost as much as amityville. Please do post!
Here are a few random articles I've had saved on one of my external drives.

I know I have more, it's simply a matter of organizing what I have and what I have already posted...and what I've forgotten I even had to begin with!

Instead of posting them one by one, I just quickly slapped them up on SD.

If you drive by the house try to take a picture to share with us on the boards. I agree the paint job looked terrible in that picture. I wonder if that window with the fan is still in the window? Please give us an update!!

I just drove past the house. I almost forgot, so i didn't have my camera ready. The front has been painted since the last picture was taken- seemed to be the same color. There was no fan in the window, but an air conditioner sticking out from the other side. There were some items on the porch near each side, like a baby stroller, so there are probably people living on both sides. I'll try to get a pic next week.

Slurm Hauntings

Post by Victor Fries » Sat Mar 08, 2008 3:37 am

I went and dug around on the net trying to find out more on this. There were two things that I did notice that caught my attention. The first was that when the Smurls moved in they began remodeling their new home. Which was built in 1896. Remodeling has been known to be a trigger some forms paranormal activity. Also the Smurl girls where also entering puberty which is sometime know to cause poltergeist type phenomena.

But even at best this doesn't add up to demonic infestation.

I also found this website that has a good overview on the case. But as the only info that comes about is case is mainly pipe lined off the Warren's investigation I'm afraid it's just more of the same. Still, check it out if you want.

It's a good story. But for now. That's all it is. A story. Don't feel bad. Roswell's in that same box, too.

It actually looks as if its being fixed up. The front looks MUCH nicer with the coats of paint they applied. I just wished they'd put up the for sale sign already for me  , even though the place i am fixing up is 10x what i can handle
