Sorry, why's it hilarious?

Evil Escapes is in the top 5 best Amityville films.

I just wanted to say. Anyone who thought this movie was hilarious really needs some help. The family went through huge trauma with the father who had died. Then the young daughter is being possessed and the mother has to go through the possibility she is seriously mentally ill. The demon even dispatches the family parrot.

Lamp or not there were some serious issues brought up in this film and its always overlooked.

It's a movie, a completely fictional movie.

It is also hilariously ridiculous.

Phelous' review is spot on at highlighting the silliness of it.

For the points I mentioned above it isn't

Your narrow field of view of fictional movies does not serve you.

To be somewhat fair to Amityville 4, the family based drama side of things was done surprisingly well. The lamp part of it is pretty ridiculous and the movie is barely able to even take itself seriously at times.

A good quote from another review of the movie sums it up pretty nicely:

"The Evil Escapes comes perilously close to acknowledging its own idiocy when the younger priest retorts, “On what basis? A satanic force has taken possession of a lamp!?”"

https://andyoucallyourselfascientist.co ... apes-1989/

A slightly less mocking review which is very much worth reading as it highlights some of the major "WTF" moments in the movie.

Still, I happen to quite like Amityville 4, once you get past the silliness it is a half decent effort.

As far as YouTube movie review channels go this guy was okay. Although I tend to think that his take on the movie leans towards poking fun at the silliness of the movie premise. Yes we know the Amityville franchise is born from a true story but the lamp movie being fictionalised leans towards the absurd and even better is I think how the movie tries to take itself seriously and fails dismally.

Let me guess; "its a lamp! Hahah! How creepy right? A lamp how stupid dude... This is nowhere near as cool as The Ring! That is true horror! That's true American horror wizardry!"

People taking a movie at face value are hilarious.

[Retro Nightmares] ‘Amityville’ Double Feature Revisits Surprisingly Clever Sequels

The second entry in the Bloody Disgusting presents Retro Nightmares series is a double feature that likely raises eyebrows at first glance. October 4, 2018, brings Amityville: The Evil Escapes and Amityville: It’s About Time, the fourth and sixth entries of an uneven and fairly lackluster horror franchise. Aside from being underseen, these particular sequels cleverly took their cue from the destruction of the iconic Amityville house at the end of Amityville 3-D, giving the plot the freedom to go to some surprising, wacky places without the shackles of the house’s limitations. What happens when the evil within Amityville escapes via furniture? Some fun schlock, surprising makeup effects, and a whole lot of Amityville weirdness makes for a fun double feature meant to be seen with a group.

Amityville: The Evil Escapes and Amityville: It’s About Time will both be playing as part of Retro Nightmares in theaters Nationwide Thursday, October 4th. Get tickets at www.retronightmares.com.
